In an earlier blog post I introduced you to a method of thinking I call cleanse or clog.
How I think about it is...
Every action I take, every choice I make -- in the thinnest sliced moments of life -- is either cleansing me or clogging me.
Current events have reinforced that we can't always control what happens to us, but we can control how we respond.
One of my goals during all of this is to make more cleansing choices than clogging choices.
What much of that comes down to is thinking about what I CAN do with the resources that are available.
I'll be honest. When news about the coronavirus hit, I initially felt angry. I wanted answers. As more information came to light, my anger gave way to fear, which has given way to sadness.
There's a lot that's uncertain right now, but how we show up and respond to the current health crisis is so important.
Being flexible and finding new ways to adapt will not only help us find our balance, but put us in a better position to help others and help them find their balance as well.
It is encouraging to see people like fitness experts making their exercises available online.
Some other cleansing behaviors I've seen or heard about over the past week include:
People checking in on their friends, colleagues and loved ones through social media, video chat, or cell phone
Families and groups of friends coming together for virtual game nights
Musicians live streaming concerts from their homes
Zoos and aquariums sharing live cams of the animals
Museums offering virtual tours
Universities offering free, online courses to the public
Schools and families embracing digital learning and companies embracing remote work
Friends focusing on self-improvement and learning new skills
Companies pivoting to produce hand sanitizers and masks
Neighbors supporting local restaurants and small businesses by buying gift cards or ordering curbside pickup
Tell me, what are some other cleansing behaviors we can get behind during this time? Or, have you witnessed an act of kindness this week? Share it with me! I want to hear from you.
